History

David Livingstone’s History curriculum is designed to bring children into a dialogue with the past and with the traditions of historical enquiry. We believe that the study of history is essential to developing children’s critical literacy and the ways in which changing accounts of the past have shaped identities and cultures around the world.

We believe that children should have access to an inclusive history curriculum in which many diverse people and cultures are represented and to begin to gain an awareness of how claims about history can be tested through historical enquiry. We want them to understand how historians construct their accounts of the past and how these accounts can be tested to gain further insights about our shared histories.

Geography

David Livingstone’s high-quality geography education inspires pupils to have a curiosity and fascination with the world around them. The curriculum is designed to provide pupils with the foundational skills required to think geographically, which are transferable across the subject and the curriculum.

It offers a progressive sequence - pupils build on their skills as they move through the school. Geography units are planned into sequenced lessons, which follow the skills and concepts required by the National Curriculum. As a result, pupils at David Livingstone are equipped with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a secure understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Our learners move into secondary school with an appreciation of how places evolve and link to each other as well as a holistic understanding of the world.
