History
David Livingstone’s History curriculum is designed to help children connect with the past, and learn about the methods historians use to study history. We believe that studying history is important for developing critical thinking skills and understanding how different views of the past have shaped people, communities, and cultures around the world.
Our curriculum is inclusive and reflects the diversity of people and cultures throughout history, helping children see themselves and others in the stories of the past. It teaches our pupils to question and investigate historical claims, showing them how historians build and test their accounts of the past. Through this approach, children gain a better understanding of our shared history and the tools to think critically about the world.
When discussing history, we ensure that pupils have a depth of understanding around vocabulary, and provide them with models and images that support with ongoing retrieval. For some new concepts we may pre-teach children vocabulary.
Geography
At David Livingstone, we offer a high-quality geography education designed to inspire curiosity and a lasting fascination with the world. Our carefully planned curriculum equips pupils with essential geographical skills and knowledge, building progressively as they move through the school.
Our lessons follow a clear, sequenced structure aligned with the National Curriculum, enabling pupils to explore diverse places, cultures, resources, and environments while developing a deep understanding of physical and human processes. By the time our pupils leave David Livingstone, they have acquired a strong foundation in geography and an appreciation of how places connect and evolve, preparing them confidently for the next stage of their education.
To ensure that all pupils are able to access Geography effectively, we ensure that we adapt our images or models given. For example, for pupils with visual impairment, we will enlarge and alter the images for map work.
