At David Livingstone Academy, we believe mathematical learning should be a dynamic and interconnected journey rather than a linear progression. Our Mathematics curriculum draws inspiration from a comprehensive network of mathematical concepts, incorporating insights from the Complete Maths framework, crafted by experts over the past 15 years. It continuously evolves, harnessing the power of AI and machine learning to intricately arrange these mathematical ideas for optimal student comprehension.
We combine this curriculum with a spiral and mastery approach to Mathematics by revisiting topics to encourage fluency and the retention of knowledge. Further to this, children progress through the learning at broadly the same pace, with opportunities for faster graspers to increase their understanding through exploring each area of the curriculum in depth. Our goal extends beyond solving calculations; we aim to instill in pupils the ability to demonstrate and articulate their grasp of mathematical concepts. This approach cultivates understanding, nurturing students into confident mathematicians who enthusiastically embrace mathematical challenges as well as seeing how mathematics is used applied in the wider world.
Furthermore, we collaborate on curriculum decisions with the STEP community and offer educators ongoing professional development, keeping their pedagogical and didactic knowledge up to date and expertly refined to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Our school extends access to Complete Maths Tutor, a valuable resource that supports students in various settings, serving as an intervention tool, homework aid, and in-class learning companion.
