At David Livingstone, we believe that music is a universal language that brings joy, creativity, and a sense of community to our primary school experience. Our vibrant music curriculum is designed to ignite the passion for music in our young learners, fostering their musical talents and nurturing their appreciation for the art.

Music is an integral part of our curriculum because it enriches children's lives in numerous ways. It enhances cognitive development, boosts self-esteem, and teaches discipline and teamwork. Through music, children learn to express themselves, think critically, and connect with others on a profound level. It is more than just notes and melodies; it's a journey of self-discovery.

Ensuring children have a meaningful and inclusive music education is a priority at our school. We provide our children with the opportunity to appraise music from the Medieval Period, right through to the music of modern day. We are developing the children’s opportunities to perform and compose a range of diverse music. Our children learn to analyse rhythm, beat, pitch, and structure to deepen their understanding of how music is made. These skills will then transferred into their own performances and compositions.

We believe every child has the right to develop the skills to read music, enabling them to learn and play a variety of instruments. Through our ambitious curriculum, we develop self-confidence, teamwork, and a passion for music.
